The former air shaft in Ellinghorst was, as the name suggests, built for the ventilation and air regulation of the composite shaft system "Möller- und Rheinbabenschächte". During the Second World War there was a camp for slave labor in the building of the air shaft. A little further north on Maria-Theresienstraße, directly in front of the autobahn, there was a camp for about 1.00 Russian prisoners of war.
