Originally built as a protection and stronghold against the lords of Heiden and Gemen, it is first mentioned in 1360 as the property of the knight Goswin von Engelrading called von Gemen.

In its eventful history, the castle complex was owned by various noble families. It was relocated, conquered, sold and bought back several times. This checkered history could of course not remain without consequences for the house.

In 1704 the building was so dilapidated that it had to be rebuilt. It was rebuilt as an elongated, single-story building with irregularly arranged windows. The otherwise unadorned house is crowned in the middle of the roof by a turret with a bell and a floating angel as a weather vane. The formerly fortified character of this old complex can be recognized by the ring-shaped ramparts and ditches that are still partially preserved today.

Haus Engelrading is privately owned and used as a farm.
