...In 2019, the operation of the "Paradiesmühle" hydroelectric power plant was finally stopped by the owner as a result of the high water law requirements that had arisen from the European Water Framework Directive and the associated enormous financial burdens as well as the threat of fines in the event of non-compliance by the Lower Water Authority of the Erzgebirgskreis District Office.

The "Paradiesmühle" hydroelectric power plant was unable to generate the high financial burdens from the required implementation of the European Water Framework Directive over a long period of time and was thus forced to give up, like other forms of regional electricity generation in Germany.

From 1911 to 2019, the energy provided by nature in the form of hydropower was used for propulsion purposes in the Paradiesmühle on the Pöhlbach.

The first documented mention of the industrial site dates back to 1734.

It was initially a wood mill (sawmill), but later functioned as a wood and metal grinding mill.

The built-in Francis turbines drove generators with an output of around 80 kW, which also supplied the brickworks located in the immediate vicinity with electricity. Since 2001, the electricity generated here has been fed into the public electricity distribution network as 100% renewable energy.

The "Paradiesmühle" hydroelectric power plant can safely supply around 50 households with electricity generated from renewable sources, and the CO2 avoided compared to conventional electricity supply from coal is over 120 t per year....

Currently the turbines are “behind bars”
