Gut Marutendorf, located near the Westensee, had been in the possession of the Knights of Marute since 1309. At that time there was a moated castle near the present complex. At the beginning of the 16th century, the family converted the basic economy into an estate economy. The Marute family died out in the 16th century, and the Rantzau family succeeded the estate.

In the 17th century ownership changed several times, including to those of Ahlefeldt and von Rumohr and the later Counts of Kielmansegg, von Schimmlmann and Wedderkop. From 1788, Peter Anton took over the estate and had the single-storey manor house still standing today built. In 1822 ownership changed to the Schreiber family (von Cronstern), who bequeathed it to the Counts of Plessen. During the land reform after the Second World War, the goods were divided. Today there is an organic farm here in some areas.
