All Saints Church Newland, traditionally and affectionately known as The Cathedral of the Forest, dates back to the early 1200s. The village of Newland did not exist before the clearing was made in the Forest and the church built.

The elements that forged the forest history echo on this circuit of Dean Weston march. The iron tinted water has given Redbrook its name. The stone has bequeath the forest a cathedral. The trees have covered the sand stone escarpment that dives down to the wye this boarder country. Just near by over a millennium ago the mercian King Offa used the boarder earth to mould a great boundary fortification.
