It is always astonishing how many of these war memorials are well preserved and cared for in the former "East". However, I personally think that at least part of German history has not disappeared like in the "West". These monuments were meant to give you food for thought about how terrible such historical events actually were. The large number of these monuments illustrate the horrors of wars and the large number of deaths in such.
