The charming village of Tavoleto is located on the top of a steep hill within the middle Foglia valley between Marche and Romagna; it is believed that the first settlements date back to the Byzantine period (7th-8th century) and its name derives from the Latin term Tabuletum, which indicated the place where the trunks of the surrounding woods were transformed into boards which were then transported and worked in Rome ( it is said that the scaffolding used by Michelangelo to paint the Sistine Chapel was built with the Tavoleto panels).
