Tips
Vilain Castle, popularly known as Rattendaele Castle, was the residence of the Ghent canon Albinus Vilain in the 17th century. The castle was increasingly neglected after the death of the last owner in 1940. In 1980 the castle was listed as a monument, the park became public domain, the walls a protected village view. Nevertheless, the castle was demolished at the end of the 20th century, except for the octagonal staircase tower.
