For centuries, the farming communities of today's Holzwickede parish belonged to the Opherdicke parish and the parishioners had to cover the long and arduous route to the old Opherdicke church. In the course of industrialization, the focus of the community shifted to Holzwickede, where a church building association was founded in 1892. In 1905 the foundation stone for the new church could be laid. During the construction period, the Evangelical Church Community of Holzwickede was parceled out from the mother community of Opherdicke in 1906 and became independent. In 1907 the church, which was mainly built by Holzwickeder craftsmen, was consecrated.
