The Haussee is part of the landscape park of Petzow Castle and is located south-east of the line of sight that is spanned by the castle and the village church of Petzow to the north-west. To the north is the Glindower See, to the south is the Schwielowsee. Depending on the water level, there is an unnamed connection to it, which is located on the southern shore of the Haussee.

The then landowner of Petzow, Friedrich August Kaehne, had a mansion built in 1825 according to plans by Karl Friedrich Schinkel, which was expanded in 1838 by Peter Joseph Lenné to include a 15-hectare landscaped park. This resulted in the lake and a wash house, a fishing hut and a smithy. In the 21st century, the ensemble is maintained by a local history association. Trout are farmed in the lake and marketed by an adjacent restaurant.
