𝐃𝐢𝐞 𝐖𝐚𝐥𝐡𝐨𝐥𝐳𝐤𝐢𝐫𝐜𝐡𝐞In a meadow valley between Hunolstein and Weiperath stands a lonely church that can look back on 800 years of history, the Walholzkirche. For over eight centuries it served the residents of the surrounding villages for worship purposes. Dating from around 1130-1150, the Walholzkirche was probably built as a small wooden church. In the 13th century this was replaced by a stone church. The current building was listed in 1760 as a conversion and extension of an older church, which had become dilapidated and too small for the growing population. When the new church in Hunolstein was named a parish church in 1909, the Walholzkirche was only used as a cemetery chapel until 1957. Source: Text information board
