The Kosmos has a turbulent history. The first buildings date from 1934 when the modernist building was built as a hotel-restaurant-bar. Due to its success, it was greatly expanded in area from the 1960s onwards to organize grand parties. In addition to this expansion, additional buildings and pavilions were built as youth accommodations. However, the site was mainly known for its open-air swimming pool. The entire complex fell into disrepair, especially after the permit for the swimming pool was refused in 2002. This is because it is too difficult to reach for the emergency services.

De Kosmos on the Rodeberg in Heuvelland was a well-known holiday domain and recreation area. It was founded in the 1930s and included a hotel, restaurant, party hall, music café, and an open-air swimming pool. The domain was especially popular in the 1960s to 1980s, when it was frequently visited by youth movements, CM camps, and forest classes.
The open-air swimming pool, which was built in the 1960s, was an important feature of De Kosmos and attracted many visitors. Unfortunately, the swimming pool was closed in 2002 due to safety issues, which eventually led to the closure of the entire complex. Since then, the domain has fallen into disrepair.
However, there are plans to breathe new life into De Kosmos. The renovation of the holiday domain will take place in several phases, starting with the main building, which will house a hotel, café, and restaurant. The entire renovation is expected to be completed by 2034.
