The Südbahnhotel am Semmering was the first hotel in Semmering ever. It was opened in 1882 at the foot of the Pinkenkogel (1000 m above sea level). The Südbahnhotel am Semmering was one of several grand hotels along the southern railway line from Vienna to Trieste, which were commissioned to stimulate tourism in the respective regions as well as the southern railway line. Due to the pioneering work of the Semmering Railway, Semmering was already easy to reach at that time and was consequently developed into a respected holiday and climatic health resort. Semmering was with the Viennese society, as well as with the multinational crowd of guests from all parts of the K. u. K. Monarchy, popular. Fin de Siècle and Belle Époche are two periods of time at the end of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th century, which not only shaped the Südbahnhotel Semmering in terms of socio-political and sporting history. Part of Austrian tourism history also began here.
After the end of the war, operations were resumed, but there were no major business successes. The Südbahnhotel no longer met the changed requirements in tourism. In the 1960s, the company was gradually shut down.
