Schwandegg Castle is located on a 30 meter high hill northwest of the village of Waltalingen in the canton of Zurich.

The von Schwandegg family built the castle. After its extinction, the castle came to Hans von Münchwil, 1470 to the von Schönau family, 1502 to Gregorius von Roggwil, Obervogt zu Konstanz, 1537 to the farmer Anton Hermann, under whom the complex fell more and more into disrepair.

In 1553 it was bought by the mayor of Konstanz, Thomas Blarer. After that, the castle changed hands several times. In 1677 it belonged to Hans Caspar Escher, and in 1770 to the Zurich cavalry master Hans Konrad Bürkli. Again, some changes of ownership followed.
