"Saint Kilian bears the name of the Franconian apostle Kilian. A chapel bearing the name of St. Kilian stood here at the beginning of the forest road, which leads over the cross mark and the mare house to Vesser, as early as the Middle Ages. It was looked after by the Leutersdorf parish invited to linger piously.

"St. Kilian is probably the oldest church foundation in the area north of Schleusingen. First documented mention in 1187 with a reference to a small church chapel.

After a checkered history, the church was rebuilt after a fire. A door from the time before the fire was saved and preserved. The probably first hospital in southern Germany was built right next to the church and in its immediate vicinity. Unfortunately, like many churches in eastern Germany, the church fell into disrepair.

Only after the fall of the Wall could it be thoroughly renovated on the outside. There was always no money to repair the interior. So in 2006 the congregation decided to reconstruct the interior of the church on its own. In an almost unbelievable action of around 5,600 hours of action (over 100 Saturday missions with an average of 20 participants) and many missions per week, the congregation brought its church back to the "bright, friendly and dignified" state researched from the log books. Since a congregation member - fatally ill with cancer - had found his inner peace with God and himself in one of the other motorway churches, the church council decided to make this church available as a motorway church for contemplation and silence with God.
