Hiking
The Maïdo, which means "scorched earth" in Malagasy is accessible by car. It is the starting point for several hikes and one of the entrances to the Cirque de Mafate. It is advisable to get there early before the clouds block the view.

Early in the morning, the best time to do so is because of the clouds. If you want to go from there to the neighboring peaks, it is best to start in the dark, as they wrap themselves around noon more and more in clouds.
