Grand Place or "Grann Place" for the Mafatais, is one of the most visited islets in Mafate. Its geographical location offers many panoramas on the circus.
The islet also owes its reputation to the factor of Mafate, Yvrin Pausé. From 1951 to 1991, the postman born in Mafate traveled 252,000 kilometers to deliver 30 tonnes of mail.
Grand Place is divided into three blocks on the rampart of the Rivière des Galets: Grand Place les Bas or Cayenne, Grand Place École and finally Grand Place les Hauts which include the majority of the gites on the islet.
