At the large staging area's south end the wide bikeable MacDonald Trail heads south along the east side of the stream and climbs up to the ridge to exit on Parkridge Rd to Skyline, or continue south to exit back onto Redwood Road at Bort Meadow.

Gateway to a great trail connecting from Redwood Regional Park south to Chabot. The size of the parking area indicates the popularity of this trailhead with options to run in several directions in the redwoods valley or up the ridges

Reasonable sized parking spot for the Macdonald Trail. Heading south east out of the parking lot takes you gradually uphill onto the ridge that makes up the East Bay Skyline National Trail. Sunrise is beautiful from many points on the top. Continue onward to reach Bort Meadow for a solid out and back.
