For more than 500 years Greinburg Castle has watched majestically and powerfully over the town of Grein and the Danube.
The interior is dominated by the spacious Renaissance courtyard with ornate arcades, which unfortunately can only be visited with an entrance fee.
Other highlights are the impressive Knights' Hall, the Castle Chapel, the unique diamond vault with its fascinating play of light and shadow and the Sala Terrana decorated with Danube pebbles.
Tolls, special loading and trading rights and the continuous merchant traffic in the late Middle Ages allowed the city to flourish and justified the stately construction of the castle.
Greinburg Castle has belonged to the ducal family of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha since 1823.

The Upper Austrian Maritime Museum is also located in the castle complex. Here you can find out more about wood rafting, among other things.
