The hamlet of Steg belongs to the municipality of Triesenberg (1300 m above sea level)
Steg above Triesenberg in the Principality of Liechtenstein is, so to speak, the cross-country skiing center for the well-known holiday resort of Malbun. The former MaiensÀss in the Walser settlement of Triesenberg also houses an idyllic mountain chapel.
The hamlet of Steg at 1312 m above sea level. M.) is a holiday and hiking area in the Principality of Liechtenstein and belongs to the municipality of Triesenberg. Steg is located in the Sami Valley and was once a MaiensĂ€ss for the farmers of Triesenberg, a Walser settlement. The name “Steg” refers to the bridge that crosses the Samina here. Today Steg, about halfway between the village of Triesenberg and the holiday resort of Malbun, which is also part of the municipality, is the starting point in summer for many different hikes in idyllic landscapes, for example through the ValĂŒna and Naaf valleys to the PfĂ€lzer HĂŒtte of the Liechtenstein Alpine Club.
In winter, Steg is the starting point for the 15 km long cross-country ski trail into the idyllic ValĂŒne Valley. Three kilometers of it can be illuminated as a night trail. And for sledding enthusiasts, there is a 1000m long natural toboggan run from Alp StĂŒcka down to Steg.
A small church in Steg was already shown on a map from 1721 and thus testifies to the importance of the religious life of the Walser people. In 1817 the chapel of St. Wendelin and Martin am Steg was either expanded or rebuilt. The current state of the idyllic mountain chapel dates back to 1906/07; The round bell tower also dates from this time.

        Steg reservoir
Water is collected in the ValĂŒna and stored in the Steg reservoir. In addition, part of the Malbunbach is also discharged into the reservoir. The water is fed through a pressure pipe to the Samina plant in Vaduz, where electricity is produced.
Water reservoir of the Saminawerk built in 1947–48 in the jetty (1296 m above sea level; area: 3.2 ha; 100,000 m3 usable storage volume). The Steg reservoir is located on the Samina above the mouth of the Malbunbach and is additionally supplied with a maximum of 550 l/s from the Malbunbach. A maximum of 1.5 m3/s of water is fed through a pressure tunnel into the moated castle on Masescha (1270 m above sea level) and through a pressure pipe into the headquarters in Vaduz (457 m above sea level) and then via the Vaduz Giessen fed into the inland canal. In order to restrict the supply of sediment, there is a bedload trap (GĂ€nglisee) in front of the Steg reservoir. Regular emptying of the storage space (removal of fine sediments, control of the bottom discharge) prevents permanent animal and plant communities from forming in the Steg reservoir. Fishing is possible through the management of the Liechtenstein Fishing Association.
