The place was first mentioned in documents in 1100 as a settlement under the name “Glychon”. In the years that followed, the settlement split into “Glychin am Berg” (today’s Gleichamberg) and “Glychon an der Wysen” (today’s Gleicherwiesen). Gleichamberg is located on the southeast slope of the Großer Gleichberg, two kilometers from the Bavarian border.
