Well preserved historical windmill near Bierde. It was built in 1802 and, according to Wikipedia source, worked for personal use until 1990.

A typical mill from the Mühlenkreis. Just beautiful.

The Bierde windmill (also called the Wiebke mill after the family that owns it; mill route no. 3) was originally built in 1802 as a Dutch transit route. Since the passage was accidentally too narrow for carts, a driveway was walled up and the ground floor was surrounded by a wall. The mill also has a number of structural features that are rather atypical for the construction methods customary at the time: the consistently straight (not conical), octagonal shape of the mill tower; the predominantly wooden (instead of stone) construction of the mill tower; and its outer cladding with wooden clapboards. Despite these and other "construction errors" the mill is still standing after more than 200 years. It still belongs to Hof Wiebke right next door. After the death of the last employed miller Möhring in 1971, the commercial mill operation ended (motor mill for own use until 1990), the Wiebke family limited itself to their core business, agriculture.
