The Neckarwiese is a green area in Heidelberg on the north bank of the Neckar. With a good five hectares, it is the largest urban green space.

It extends for a little over a kilometer at the exit from the Neckar valley from the Odenwald on the northern bank of the river. The park is 50 meters wide on average and is loosely covered with large poplars, linden trees, willows and alders, and its edge on the embankment is lined with a chestnut avenue halfway along its length. In the park, which essentially stretches between Theodor Heuss and Ernst Walz bridges, there is a central fountain with a children's playground, toilets and shower facilities, and a kiosk as well as a DLRG rescue station in the middle.

Interesting for bird lovers, because dozens of swan geese, which are very rare in Germany, can be found here all year round, as well as small numbers of pink-footed geese. But the Neckarwiese is also full of shit ;-)

This place is closed today, June 8, 2024 due to flooding.
You can experience the castle lighting (fireworks) in many other places
