The church is dedicated to St. Nicholas of Myra, the patron saint of merchants. It is occupied as a branch church of the Oberlind parish in 1529. The core of today's church was built in 1705.

Nicholas, the patron saint of merchants, gave our church its name. Not by chance, because the whole place owes its origin and growth to the old military and trade route, which connected Nuremberg-Coburg-Saalfeld-Leipzig via a mountain saddle. It would lead too far here to point out the many connections and relationships between town and street, from the post office to the post office, from the transit and overnight stays of Dr. Martin Luther's 1518 and 1550 until 50,000 French passed through in October 1806 for the battle of Jena and its aftermath. The beginnings of church life in Judenbach are largely hidden. What is certain is that the Chapel of St. Nicholas stood here before the end of the 14th century, which was expanded into a church in 1455 (based on a handwritten chronicle by Nikol Hess). Until March 20, 1660 Judenbach was the chaplain of the Oberlind parish founded by the Benedictine monastery Mönchröden. The well-preserved old measuring bell, which is still in use today as a baptismal bell, is a reminder of that time. Another ancient witness from that time is a communion chalice, also still used in worship. It is made of copper with strong gilding, in an extraordinarily artistic form, with the image of the crucified in the finest gold engraving. The inscription: “K. Jüdenbach 1645 ″. The handle of the chalice widens into a double rose with six knobs on which the initials IHSMAR (Jesus Maria) are written. Little is known about the appearance, size or construction of the church, which was built in 1455. From old church accounts we only know that it initially had a shingled roof, which was later provided with roofing, and a low tower in which there were two chained bells. Over the centuries this church had become dilapidated. It was demolished in 1705 and replaced by a new building, our current church.
