Mammoths once roamed in Drenthe in a bleak tundra climate. Excavated bones form the tangible remains. In Borger, the municipality of Borger-Odoorn has designed a special cycling/walking path from the Buinerbrug to the Hunebed Center, which has been named Mammoetpad. The more than 800 meter long path forms an alternative route from the long-term parking lot on Buinerstraat to the Hunebed Center. Information columns and eventually two life-size mammoths planted with ivy will guide the route in terms of content.
