The Charterhouse was built on the walls of the Moorish palace "Almudaina" and handed over to the Carthusian monks in the 14th century. For centuries the monks led a secluded life. In the 19th century, the Charterhouse experienced a renaissance when the composer Frédéric Chopin and George Sand spent the winter of 1838/39 there. Today the Charterhouse is a museum that takes visitors through the monks' cells and the valuable library. Concerts and other events also take place regularly. In addition to the historical significance and the connection to Chopin, there are also a number of legends and myths surrounding the Charterhouse of Valldemossa, including the story of the young girl who was walled up, whose spirit is said to still wander through the corridors.
