The Gymnicher Mühle is one of the best preserved mills in the Rhein-Erft-Kreis. The first written mention is from the year 1315: The lords of Gymnich received the mill as a fief of the abbot of Siegburg. As a so-called spell mill they were entitled to the sole right to water. The Gymnicher mill was operated as a grain and oil mill and originally had two unterschlachtige water wheels. In 1563 it was relocated to its present location, directly to the main run of the Erft.In the late 19th century for the first time plans came up to create the Erft below the Gymnicher mill a new riverbed: The old arm of the Erft became the "Little Erft". The combined residential and mill house is now a listed building. Although the technical device was already removed from the mill in 1948, the mill wheel remained as a powerful witness of the former use.In addition to an inn at the Gymnicher mill with beer garden, there is the Erftmuseum and a water park.naturparkzentrum-gymnichermuehle.de

The Gymnicher mill is an old watermill on the Erft. It was first documented in 1315, but is probably much older. In 1563 they were relocated to their current location. At the end of the Second World War, the operation was abandoned and the entire technical equipment removed.
Today, the Gymnicher mill is a nature park center and a popular destination. An exciting nature experience program awaits school classes, kindergartens and adult groups. In the Erftmuseum and in the exhibition "Korn zum Brot" the specialties of the Erft and the history of the mills are shown. In summer, the 1.5-hectare water park with various play stations offers the little visitors a special highlight. The inn offers regional food and Rhenish hospitality. From the terrace, it is worth taking a look at the herb garden. Raptors can be admired in the falconry, hikers and cyclists can explore the nearby Erftaue on several signposted routes.Source: naturparkzentrum-gymnichermuehle.de
