South of the Karlslust sports field near Storkow, a 500 meter long field and forest path leads to Malerkiefer. The impressive tree stands on the edge of the forest, is wider than it is tall and over 200 years old. As a "border tree" on a parcel boundary, it was able to develop freely for a long time and develop a wide-spreading branch. The old pine looks really very picturesque. The name comes from the poor and dry "Malsand", which is typical here, on which the tree stands.

The tree, which has been secured as a natural monument, is an impressive testimony to earlier land use with arable farming, forest pasture and peasant forest management. In the past few years, growing trees and bushes have put painter's pine under severe pressure. These are to be pushed back as nature conservation measures.
