Shortly before the historic meeting of the US and Soviet troops in Torgau on April 25, 1945, the prison commanders had Fort Zinna and Bridgehead evacuated. The prisoners of the Wehrmacht prison Brückenkopf were already put on the march on April 14th. American troops finally liberated them on May 8, 1945 in Markersdorf, Saxony.
