Hiking

On May 14, 1923, the memorial to the soldiers and officers of Infantry Regiment No. 72 who fell in the First World War was dedicated. The sculptor, Hans Dammann, chose a lion for the memorial. It was interpreted as a symbol of the Greeks' struggle against the overwhelming Persian forces. Approximately 6,900 infantrymen from the regiment are said to have fallen, including 234 officers.
