"For children, the Lichtenhagen nature reserve is a popular, local destination for a walk or a short bike ride: here you can see many reflective bodies of water, sometimes geese or rare birds can be seen on them. Walking along the hilly banks is great fun.

Clay was mined in Lichtenhagen until the 1970s. The area is now a refuge for numerous endangered and threatened animal and plant species. It is therefore designated as a nature reserve. Walkers must enter the forest areas, heather moors and wet meadows carefully and must not even think about picking bouquets of wild flowers. The floodplain and marsh forests are particularly attractive to the eye. And families with children can use this example to discuss why, after years of clay mining, people now have to respect the fact that nature is reclaiming this area in a wonderful way. Willows, reeds, rushes - there are many plants to discover here. In between there are many species of reptiles and amphibians."
