The Reischenau is the middle part of the Augsburg-Westliche Wälder Nature Park. The Reischenau was an extensive fen area in a valley basin created by the association. The name, which has been handed down as far back as the 11th century (Rischinaowa), is derived from the boggy landscape and the Reischen (rushes) growing there. The Reischenau is drained by the Reichenbach, the Kleine Roth and the Zusam.
