Wolfsberg castle ruins
In the Middle Ages, the Wolfsberg castle ruins belonged to the noble family of Fraßen vom Wolfsberg, who also founded the hamlet of Stadel near Dinkelscherben. The castle was destroyed in 1462 by soldiers from the imperial city of Augsburg.

The ruins of Wolfsberg Castle are enthroned high above the Zusmarshausen district of Steinekirch. Once built in the 10th century, the site was inhabited by the Feeding family until the middle of the 14th century. With the change of lords around the year 1350, gloomy times began. There was talk of attacks on traders and robber barons. Ultimately, the castle was destroyed and abandoned on January 26, 1462.The ravages of time gnawed at the remains of the once so proud castle for almost 400 years until parts of the walls were given a new purpose. In the middle of the 19th century, the stones were used to build the Augsburg-Ulm railway line. In this way, the defiant castle, which symbolizes the Middle Ages like hardly anything else, found a new purpose in the railroad - the symbol of the new age of industrialization. You can still see the remains of the mighty keep, which gives visitors a hint to a time of knights and legends.
