Mentioned for the first time in 1276, the city gained national importance through the manufacture of cloths. In the former guild house from 1784 there is now a museum with hand weaving.

In 1783, the clothmakers' guild decided to build a new master craftsman's house, and just one year later, the first meeting was held there.
The house survived all of the town's fires unscathed and, although now extensively renovated, still appears today in its original form: Baroque style and well-proportioned. The ground floor, built of rubble masonry, supports a timber frame structure covered by a hipped roof.
Today, a demonstration workshop occupies the first floor, offering a glimpse into the traditional crafts of Hainichen.
The Clothmakers' House is open every Monday from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
