The Sachsenburg concentration camp was one of the early National Socialist concentration camps. It existed in Sachsenburg from May 1933 to August 1937 and was the only concentration camp in Saxony from 1934. The camp is considered to be the link between the early concentration camps and the later concentration camp system as well as an experimental field and training facility for the camp SS.

The former site and building of the spinning mill were rededicated as a concentration camp for around 2,000 prisoners in April 1933. In Sachsenburg, the National Socialist terror not only began with oppression, inhumanity and torture, it was here that the foundations for the establishment of the subsequent concentration and extermination camps were laid.gedenkstaette-sachsenburg.de
