    Büschfeld train station

The 22 km long line of the Merzig-Büschfelder Railway was opened on July 6, 1903. This small railway closed the gap in the railway network between Hochwald and Saar Valley. The Büschfeld railway station became a junction with the state railway line Nonnweiler - Wadern - Büschfeld - Wemmetsweiler, which was put into operation in 1897, and a transshipment point for many travelers and goods. Gradual shutdown began in the late 1950s. From 1959 the railcars only drove from Merzig to Losheim. Rail transport was replaced by buses. Freight traffic between Nunkirchen and Büschfeld came to a standstill in 1960. Passenger traffic on the federal railway line in the direction of Wemmetsweiler ended in 1980, before the rails were dismantled as far as the entrance to Büschfeld in 1992. Since June 12, 1982, the Losheim Museum Railway Club has been operating steam locomotive-powered museum tours on the railway lines of the former Merzig-Büschfelder Railway (MBE).

The route is approximately 15 km long and runs through the beautiful landscapes of the Hochwald forest. The total round trip takes approximately two hours. All trains are staffed – tickets are available on the train.

The museum railway also offers free bicycle transport.

Small, cozy bar & bistro with a small but fine menu. Daily freshly prepared burgers, ravioli, salads, quiches, coffee & cake, delicious wines, various beers on tap etc
