In this old cultural landscape, a wetland with a specialized flora and fauna has developed around the near-natural Wahnbach with its mill races. A mosaic of habitats such as alluvial forest, swamp forest, grove cornmeal beech forest, reed beds, tall herb meadows, wet meadows, sandy fields and streams emerged. Biologists speak of a biotope complex with a high level of biodiversity. Many rare bird species, e.g. whinchat, kingfisher and red-backed shrike are found in the sanctuary. The designated nature reserve "Noswendeler Bruch" therefore bears the quality seal "European bird sanctuary". Source: text information board
