In this old cultural landscape, a wetland with a specialized flora and fauna has developed around the near-natural Wahnbach with its mill ditches. A mosaic of habitats has emerged, such as alluvial forest, fen forest, woodrush beech forest, reed beds, tall herb meadows, wet meadows, sand fields and streams. Biologists speak of a biotope complex with a high level of biodiversity. Many rare bird species, e.g. Whinchats, kingfishers and red-backed shrikes are found in the protected area. The nature reserve “Noswendeler Bruch” designated here therefore bears the quality seal “European bird sanctuary”. Source: Text information board
