Eggerode is the second oldest place of pilgrimage in the diocese of Münster and has been part of the community of Schöppingen since 1969.

The figure of the Virgin is in the Eggeroder Gnadenkapelle from 1843. The 70 centimeter high, colored wooden sculpture shows a Byzantine Madonna with a gently tilted head. The Mother of God appears here as Queen, sitting on the throne, Jesus on her lap, a scepter in her right hand. Mary and the baby Jesus wear ornate crowns.

The grace chapel was enlarged in 1951 by adding a choir and in 1992 by building the candle chapel
