Around 1450, Count Albrecht II of Hohenlohe had a church built in the late Gothic style on the site of an older chapel dedicated to the Virgin Mary. In 1609-1611, the Neuenstein master builder Georg Kern incorporated the choir and the lower floors of the tower into a new building.
