The observation tower was officially opened on November 25, 1980.
Due to fire damage, the Idarkopf observation tower and the area around the tower are closed until further notice. Entering the cordoned off area is prohibited.

The wooden tower on the 745 meter high Idarkopf is history. Its demolition was completed in March 2022. The 28 meter high attraction had become dilapidated after a fire in October 2018. A new tower is planned. The foundations can still be seen.
