"Laufener Katzenbeißer": Lauffener wine has been famous for its outstanding quality for many centuries. The reason for this is the preferred location on the sun-drenched Neckar loop combined with the warm, heat-storing Muschelkalk and Keuper soils. Those who could afford this wine in the early days had to dig a little deeper into their pockets, so tore or "bit" a larger hole in their money cat (forerunner of today's wallet). The Lauffener wine was now called "Katzenbeisser" with increasing frequency. In the course of time, the name "Lauffener Katzenbeißer" manifested itself and is a synonym for the largest and best-known individual location in the Württemberg wine-growing region.
