Please check local regulations for: Cairngorms National Park
If you have a car and you can't decide between the vast sub-Arctic plateau of the Cairngorms and the spiky Stobs and sinuous Aonachs of the West Highlands, Newtonmore is a great place to base yourself. Only an hour from Fort William and half an hour from Aviemore, you've got the best of both worlds. It also has a station on the Highland Railway line between Perth and Inverness.
With the Monadhliath range to the north, Newtonmore is the ideal base for the Munros of Carn Dearg, A'Chailleach and Carn Sgulain. This is also prime wildcat territory. Encircling the village is the Wildcat Trail, a wonderful walk in its own right. For more information, visit the Wildcat Centre next to the village hall.
It is host to many accommodation options, a convenience store and a good number of places to eat and drink.
