The Briese belongs to the Barnim Nature Park and was formed as a glacial meltwater river valley. Its source is in the Wandlitzsee. Its 1.2km long course meanders through meadows, moors and alder swamp forests below the Rahmer See. It has a gradient of around 17m and is therefore a habitat for brown trout, kingfishers and grey wagtails. It flows into an old arm of the Havel in Birkenwerder.
The lake itself was artificially dammed and is said to offer anglers eels, bream, pike, crucian carp, carp, roach and tench.
