The Briese belongs to the Barnim Nature Park and was formed as a glacial meltwater river valley. Its origins can be found in the Wandlitzsee. Its 1.2 km long course flows in a meandering shape through meadows, moors and alder swamp forests below the Rahmer See. It has a gradient of around 17 m and is therefore a habitat for brown trout, kingfishers and grey wagtails. It flows into an old arm of the Havel in Birkenwerder.
It is definitely an experience to walk right through the Briese floodplain or the river valley. The path sometimes consists of a footbridge, sometimes of strong root passages. You should be a good walker or have good control of your bike. In wet weather it can be very muddy or very slippery. You should definitely take in the landscape and not rush past.
