Knights, damsels and nobles have enjoyed the view from Hilgartsberg Castle over the course of several centuries. First mentioned in 1112, the property changed hands frequently. Whether Sulzbacher, Staufer, Ortenburger, the Wittelsbacher or the Fugger family – they all appreciated this valuable view. The Fuggers never lived in the castle, but after a fire in 1626 they expanded it considerably using their large fortune. Since 1995, the castle ruins including the St. Georg castle chapel, kennel, fountain and gate tower have been owned by the Hofkirchen market.
