The Stations of the Cross, probably created by the Marian Civic Sodality under Bishop Josef von Hommer (1824-1836), lead from Kurfürstenstraße (Trier-Ost district) along a sunken lane through the vineyards (large vineyards of Trierer Römerlay)

up to the Petrisberg mountain and to the Chapel of the Cross.

The 14 Stations of the Cross were replaced with new sculptures in 1880 and again in 1925. These reliefs were created by the Trier sculptor Nagel in gray limestone, set in altar-like sandstone frames with gabled or semicircular tops. The individual panels depict simple figures, in keeping with their period of origin, arranged parallel to the image, almost bursting the frame.
