On October 28, 2011, police chief Mathias Vieth was shot dead by two serious criminals during a nighttime check in Augsburg's Siebentischwald. His colleague was injured in the process. In memory of him, his colleagues erected a memorial stone at the crime scene in the Siebentischwald in 2012. This stone is located between two paths and serves as a memorial to his commitment and his sacrifice. On the occasion of the tenth anniversary of his death, Bavaria's Interior Minister Joachim Herrmann laid a wreath at the memorial stone in October 2021 and emphasized that Mathias Vieth would never be forgotten.
