There are many prehistoric bank and ditch earthworks in the Chiltern's region and many share the name Grim's Ditch or Grim's Dyke. This one is thought to have been a border between Iron Age kingdoms and runs for 5 straight miles (8 km) from Mongewell on the River Thames to Nuffield on the Chiltern escarpment. Today, the Ridgeway National Trail makes good use of it.
