Epprechtstein Castle Ruins

Very nice castle ruins with great views. In the castle there is a board with the "technical data" about the ruin. The castle was mentioned for the first time in 1248 in a deed of gift from the Andechs Meranians, at that time in the possession of an Eberhardus de Eckebretsteine. In the course of the 14th century it developed into a robber knight's nest, which is why the Nuremberg burgraves conquered the castle in 1352. In 1553 the castle was finally destroyed by the troops of the bailiff Heinrich IV von Plauen in the Second Margrave War.

Interested parties will find some information boards about the granite mining and the individual quarries around the ruins. Going up is definitely worth it!
